NEWS nanamica

Having created numerous staples over the years, from Balmacaan coats to down jackets, Nanamica turns its attention to the duffle coat this season. Based on a piece from the 1950s, this new design retains the classic, rugged character that recalls the duffle coat’s roots as protective clothing for fishermen. Inside, it offers excellent wind resistance, making it a dependable choice even in the city amid the bitter winds of midwinter.

The outer fabric uses a blended yarn of British wool, organic cotton, and recycled polyester. Woven from thick yarn, the karsey fabric has deep, pronounced ridges that give it a visibly substantial, reassuring weight. The lining is made from undyed organic cotton/COOLMAX® EcoMade twill, with a highly breathable WINDSTOPPER® Liner beneath it. Despite its classic appearance, what lies inside is thoroughly modern. The details have been carefully considered as well. Linen rope is used for the front toggles, while cotton tape at the hood allows the fit to be adjusted—details inspired by duffle coats of the period. Particularly striking is the undyed colorway, which recalls the coat’s roots as workwear by the sea. With a comfortably relaxed silhouette, it makes an impression simply thrown on. It retains the substantial character of a traditional duffle coat while adding hybrid functionality designed to see you comfortably through the winter.
